Services provided by the Family Help Trust

The Family Help Trust's early-intervention services are intensive,  homebased,  long-term, family-based and child-focused. They target high-risk parents with multiple-problem histories who have young families.

We provide two such services targeted at different groups -- New Start and Safer Families. They are a response to evidence that long-term, home-based intervention targeted at the whole family is necessary to interrupt generational dysfunctional cycles.

Families are provided with a professional, experienced Social Worker who visits the family at home.

New Start Plus for Mothers and Babies in Prison was initiated in 2008.  This service is provided behind the wire to inmate mothers with infants and toddlers up to the age of 2yrs.  When mother is released into the community of Christchurch, services are continued until the child enters the primary school system.  New Start Plus, like Safer Families and New Start is a one on one social work service designed to enable mothers, and partners post release, to be provide their child with the best start they can.

HIPPY  is a two year long programme delivered to mothers with children aged three and a half to five years.  HIPPY Hoon Hay is run out of Rowley Avenue Primary School, HIPPY Aranui from the old Araranui primary school site and HIPPY Hornby from Gilberthorpes School
